Te enviamos un cálido saludo desde España. Te enviamos todo nuestro apoyo en tu ministerio en estos momentos en que el mundo ha oscurecido tanto. Te enviamos nuestra oración para que persistas en su ministerio de crear justicia, paz y comunión.

En España ha tenido un enorme impacto la homilía que pronunciaste ante el actual presidente de los Estados Unidos y su gobierno, donde proféticamente defendiste a los más pobres y recordaste las virtudes públicas de la honestidad, la humildad, la piedad y el servicio a la unidad.

Las amenazas que sufre nuestro mundo y el intento de demolición de la Civilización de los Derechos Humanos y la Democracia, requieren que se alcen voces proféticas que nos recuerden a todos la dignidad infinita de todo ser humano, el valor de la verdad y la fraternidad universal.

Te agradecemos que, como los profetas bíblicos, hayas dado voz a la Palabra de Dios ante los más poderosos de la Tierra, y que hayas sido voz de los sin voz. Sobre todo te agradecemos que a lo largo de su pastoral insistas la necesidad de profundizar en la relación con Dios, donde poner cimientos más profundos a las luchas por la justicia.

Como preguntabas en tu homilía del 7 de marzo de 2024, nos rompe el corazón que el país más poderoso del mundo abuse de su poder. Nos rompe el corazón que divida a la gente de su propia nación y que los persiga. Nos rompe el corazón que se degrade la democracia vendiéndola a la plutocracia de los más ricos. Nos rompe el corazón que se apoye el genocidio de los palestinos, nos rompe el corazón que no se apoye a nuestros hermanos judíos que luchan por la paz y la justicia, nos rompe el corazón que la mayor democracia se rinda a los tiranos del mundo, nos rompe el corazón el maltrato a los más pobres, nos rompe el corazón que se esté impulsando un mundo de codicia y violencia.

Tras rezar y celebrar en torno a tus palabras, querida Mariann, sabemos que Dios «trabaja en nosotros y a través de nosotros, logrando mucho más de lo que podríamos pedir o imaginar» (17 de julio de 2024). Hemos aprendido que «A veces tenemos que avanzar hacia la luz cuando todavía está oscuro… Siempre empieza pequeño. En la hora más oscura, una semilla de vida comienza a agitarse y nos levantamos… ¿Quién sabe lo que se perderá si no lo hacemos? ¿Y qué puede pasar cuando lo hagamos? (30 de marzo de 2024). «Las cosas que antes parecían imposibles eran imposibles hasta que dejaron de serlo» (26 de julio de 2024).

Gracias por unir tu corazón a donde más se está sufriendo y recibe toda nuestra oración y apoyo. Gracias por levantar como la Estatua de la Libertad la luz de Cristo a lo alto en medio de la violencia y la oscuridad. Has sido providencialmente inspiradora para que nos pongamos en pie y pongamos todas nuestras fuerzas en la construcción de lo que Pablo VI llamó la Civilización del Amor.

Nos sentimos fraternalmente unidos de corazón a tu ministerio en la Comunión Anglicana y te pedimos que no retrocedas ante ninguna presión ni poder, sino que persistas en seguir alzando en lo alto la luz de Cristo hasta que superemos tanta tiniebla.

Ojalá regreses a España para recordar el tiempo que viviste en nuestro país, y nos visites para poder seguir aprendiendo de ti y apoyarte. Lo que sucede en Estados Unidos está extendiéndose a todas partes, pero ninguna tiniebla, por más oscura que sea, es capaz de apagar la luz de Cristo.

OPEN LETTER TO BISHOP MARIANN EDGAR BUDDE:

RAISING THE LIGHT IN THE DARKEST TIMES

Dear Bishop Mariann Edgar Budde,

We send you a warm greeting from Spain. We send you all our support in your ministry in these times when the world has become so dark. We send you our prayer that you persist in your ministry of creating justice, peace and communion.

In Spain, the homily you delivered before the current president of the United States and his government has had an enormous impact, where you prophetically defended the poorest and recalled the public virtues of honesty, humility, piety and service to unity.

The threats that our world suffers and the attempted demolition of the Civilization of Human Rights and Democracy require that prophetic voices be raised to remind us all of the infinite dignity of every human being, the value of truth and universal brotherhood.

We thank you that, like the biblical prophets, you have given voice to the Word of God before the most powerful on Earth, and that you have been the voice of the voiceless. Above all, we thank you for insisting throughout your pastoral work on the need to deepen the relationship with God, where you can lay deeper foundations for the struggles for justice.

As you asked in your homily on March 7, 2024, it breaks our hearts that the most powerful country in the world is abusing its power. It breaks our hearts that he divides the people of his own nation and persecutes them. It breaks our hearts that democracy is degraded by selling it to the plutocracy of the richest. It breaks our hearts that we support the genocide of the Palestinians, it breaks our hearts that our Jewish brothers who fight for peace and justice are not supported, it breaks our hearts that the greatest democracy surrenders to the tyrants of the world, the mistreatment of the poorest breaks our hearts,  It breaks our hearts that a world of greed and violence is being promoted.

After praying and celebrating around your words, dear Mariann, we know that God "works in us and through us, accomplishing much more than we could ever ask or imagine" (July 17, 2024). We have learned that "Sometimes we have to move towards the light when it is still dark... It always starts small. In the darkest hour, a seed of life begins to stir and we rise... Who knows what will be lost if we don't? And what can happen when we do?  (March 30, 2024).  "Things that once seemed impossible were impossible until they were no longer impossible" (July 26, 2024).

We want to stand up. We want to encourage and join the great movement of recivilization that is beginning to awaken and in which your homily has been a very significant milestone. Your courage inspires us, your freedom moves us, your lucidity opens paths for us.

Thank you for joining your heart to where you are suffering the most and receive all our prayer and support. Thank you for raising like the Statue of Liberty the light of Christ high in the midst of violence and darkness. You have been providentially inspiring for us to stand up and put all our strength into the construction of what Paul VI called the Civilization of Love.

We feel fraternally united in heart to his ministry in the Anglican Communion and we ask you not to shrink from any pressure or power, but to persist in continuing to lift up the light of Christ until we overcome so much darkness.

We hope you return to Spain to remember the time you lived in our country, and visit us so that we can continue learning from you and supporting you. What is happening in America is spreading everywhere, but no darkness, no matter how dark, is able to extinguish the light of Christ
